One in Him / Thy Kingdom Come

This is a folk-style hymn about unity.

The author is unknown.

Ken Canedo's book, Keep the Fire Burning: the Folk Mass Revolution, describes the musical changes in the Catholic Church in America in the 1960s.   It quotes the lyrics of this song, and says that it was included in Happiness is a Song, an "illegal songbook that was wildly popular on the West Coat ... [with] liturgical lyrics to many secular [trendy folk and pop songs of the day]" with "neither composer nor publisher credits".  No other references to the song have been found.

Canedo also notes that it is sung to the tune of "Five Hundred Miles". This is actually 500 Miles, aka "500 Miles Away from Home" or "Railroaders' Lament".  This song was written by American folksinger and songwriter Hedy West (1938-2005), and the tune came from fragments of a melody West had learned from her uncle (ref).

Lyrics

One in life, one in love,
One him Him who reigns above,
We are all one family, one in love.

Chorus
Thy kingdom come, thy kingdom come,
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
We are all one family, one in love.

In one bread, in one wine
We the branches, he the vine,
He has made us one in him,
Who is divine.

To the Father, to the Son
To the Spirit, three-in-one
Now let all creation sing, "thy will be done."
