Love One Another - Habjan

This hymn is about loving your neighbour.

It was written by American, Roman Catholic and at-the-time Glenmary Home Mission sister, Germaine Habjan (1943 - c2018 ref and ref and ref) and included on her Folk-Mass album, Songs of Salvation, which was released in 1965.

Hymn-books which it has been published in include:

A New Now - Youth Folk Hymnal 1971 Hope Publishing Co, 1971
Hymnal for Young Christians volume II, 1968, FEL

It is set to an unnamed tune, also by Habjan. This has a 6/8 time signature. In the key of Em, the first few notes of the melody are E_ G B AG_ E_ G B AG_ G A_ c A B_

After her convent was dissolved, Sr Germaine later married and became Germaine Kramlinger. Sheet music for the song, published under this name is still available - see link below.

Lyrics

From the original recording:

Chorus:
Love one another,
Love one another as I have loved you.
And care for each other,
Care for each other as I have cared for you.
And bear one another's burdens,
And share each other's joys.
And walk with one another,
And bring each other home.

1 Break and eat this bread, my life for you.
Take and drink this wine, my life lived in you.

2 Sing together here, as I have sing with you.
And join each other here as I've rejoiced with you.

Other verses which have been added - author unknown:

Forgive each other here as I've forgiven you.
Be friends to each other here as I've been friend to you.

Pray together here as I have prayed with you.
Serve each other here, as I have served you.

Sing together here as I have sung with you.
Enjoy each other here, as I've rejoiced with you.
