The music and words (possibly originally not in English) were written by Norwegian pastor Pastor Hilde Bedsvaag. Some patterns in the tune are reminiscent of Joe South's 1968 song Games People Play, although it is not a direct copy.
The song was made popular in English-speaking countries by worship leader Mark Condon, who recorded it with The Sanctuary Choir in the album "Lord, We Give You Glory", and copyright was registered in 1992.
It is set to an unnamed tune. This has a 4/4 time signature. In the key of Eb, the first few notes of the melody are GF FE EE_ GF FE FF_
