Here Today (Take me Lord, use my life)

This is a folk-style hymn about dedicating yourself to God, and petitioning for God's help and guidance, using the image of a person as a piece of clay moulded by God.

It was written by English Roman Catholic teacher and liturgical musician Francesca Leftley (b 1955).

The song was first published in Hymns Old and New by Kevin Mayhew Ltd, England, 1984.  Is included in later editions of Catholic Hymns Old and New, up to and including the 2009 edition.   This book is the only known source of sheet music for the hymn.

It is set to an unnamed tune, also by Leftley . This has a 4/4 time signature. In the key of A, the first few notes of the melody are C E E_  C E B  AG  A_ DD F E_  with accompanying chords A / E / A / E / D / Bm / Esus4.

Lyrics

The lyrics are copyright so cannot be reproduced here. But they are currently available on this website. A rough outline is:
1. Take me, Lord, use my life in the way you wish to do.
Fill me, Lord, touch my heart till it always thinks of you.
Take me now, as I am, this is all I can offer.

Chorus:
Here today I, the clay, will be moulded by my Lord.

2. Lord, I pray that each day I will listen to your will.
Many times I have failed but I know you love me still.
Teach me now, guide me, Lord, keep me close to you always.

3. I am weak, fill me now with your strength and set me free.
Make me whole, fashion me so that you will live in me.
Hold me now in your hands, form me now with your Spirit.
