These Alone Are Enough

This is a hymn about dedication and giving your whole self to God. The words are based on the Suscipe of Ignatius of Loyola, which is also known as the ‘Take, Lord and Receive’ prayer.   It may be appropriate for mission-commitment ceremonies, and for funerals.

The song was written by  American pastoral musician, composer and at-the-time Roman Catholic priest, Daniel (Dan) L Schutte (b 1947), and first published by OCP in 2004.

It is set to an unnamed tune, also by Schutte.   Moving between 4/4 and 2/4 time signatures, in the key of C, the first few notes of the melody are CD | E G G EG | A G |  G__  with accompanying chords G / C  / G / Am / F / Gsus4.

Lyrics

The lyrics are copyright so cannot be reproduced here. But they are currently available on this website. A rough outline is:
1.  Take my heart, O Lord, take my hopes and dreams ...

Chorus:
Give me nothing more than your love and grace.
These alone, O God, are enough for me.

2. Take my thoughts, Oh Lord, and my memory ...

3. I surrender, Lord, all I have and hold ....

4. When the darkness falls on my final days ...

KEEP IN CASE ORIGINAL IS REMOVED, BUT DO NOT DISPLAY 1.  Take my heart, O Lord, take my hopes and dreams.
Take my mind with all its plans and schemes.

Chorus:
Give me nothing more than your love and grace.
These alone, O God, are enough for me.

2. Take my thoughts, Oh Lord, and my memory.
Take my tears, my joys, my liberty.

3. I surrender, Lord, all I have and Hold.
I return to you your gifts untold.

4. When the darkness falls on my final days,
take the very breath that sang your praise.
