Mother of God's Living Word

This is a hymn about Mary, the mother of Jesus. 

It was written by  English Roman Catholic religious brother, educator and youth-worker Damian Lundy (1944-1996) and first published in Songs of the Spirit - Songs and Hymns of the Renewal, by Kevin Mayhew Ltd, England, in 1978.    

The song was later published in some editions of Hymns Old and New, including the Catholic 2009 edition.

It is set to the tune ORIENTIS PARTIBUS by French composer, Pierre de Corbeil (d. 1222).  Because the tune is in the public domain, it is show in the lead-sheet given below:   It is set up so the words can be added, if you have a copyright-license which allow re-production of the words.

1. Mother of God’s living Word
Glorifying Christ your Lord;
full of joy, God’s people sing,
grateful for your mothering.

2. Virgin soil, untouched by sin,
for God's seed to flourish in;
Watered by the Spirit's dew,
in your womb the Saviour grew.

3. Sharing his humility,
Bethlehem and Calvary,
with him in his bitter pain, now
as queen with him you reign.

4. We are God’s new chosen race,
new-born children of his grace,
citizens of heaven who
imitate and honour you.

5. We, God’s people on our way,
travelling by night and day,
moving to our promised land,
walk beside you hand in hand.

6. Christ, your Son, is always near,
so we journey without fear,
singing as we walk along:
Christ our joy and Christ our song!

7. Sing aloud to Christ with joy,
who was once a little boy;
sing aloud to Mary, sing,
grateful for her mothering.
