Isn't the Love of Jesus Something Wonderful

This Gospel-style hymn about Jesus' love was written by American evangelical song-writer and music publisher John W (John Willard) Peterson (1921-2006).   It was first published in 1961.

Some people sing the song as "Isn't the love of Jesus simply wonderful" -the source of this change is unknown.

With meter 10.9.10.9. with refrain, it is set to an unnamed tune, also by Peterson. This has a 4/4 time signature. In the key of Ab, the first few notes are c CC BA AA AE F_ E_ with accompanying chords Ab / Db / Ab.

Sometimes the chorus is used alone - and it readily adapted to other seasonally-appropriate phrases eg "Isn't the Holy Spirit something wonderful".

There will never be a sweeter story, Story of the Saviour's love divine, Love that brought Him from the realms of Glory, Just to save a sinful soul like mine. Chorus: Isn’t the love of Jesus something wonderful, Wonderful, wonderful. O isn’t the love of Jesus something wonderful, Wonderful it is to me. 2. Boundless as the universe around me, Reaching to the farthest soul away, Marvellous is the great love that found me, That is why my heart can truly say; 3. Love beyond our human comprehending, Love of God in Christ how can it be? This will be my theme and never ending, Great redeeming love of Calvary.
