Bring us Back to You O Lord our God

Hymn title superimposed on a purple sunrise from Vietnam - Chorus: Bring us back to you, O Lord our God, And save us in your name. 1 I will gather you from the nations, And I will unite you in my love. This is the word of God. 2 I will pour on you living water. I will make you clean and pure of heart. This is the word of God. 3 I will take the heart you have hardened. I will put in you a heart of flesh. This is the word of God. 4 In your soul my Spirit will dwell And he will reveal my will to you. This is the word of God. 5 I will be your Father for ever, You will always be my chosen people. This is the word of God.

This hymn of repentance is a translation of a French-language hymn "Fais nous revenir à toi", which is based on Ezekiel 36:24-28, and written by French Roman Catholic Jean-Paul Lécot.   It is implied that the English translation was made by Sr Lucia Fay.

Hymn-books which it has been published in include:
  • Alleluia! Amen, Veritas 1978
  • The Australian Catholic Worship Book 2, Morningstar Publications, 2016

It is set to an unnamed tune, by French organist Paul Décha. This has a 4/4 time signature.  The key seems to move between Dm and F:  the first few notes are FE DC D2 F2 G3.
