This hymn is a German carol from the 1600s, translated to English by Theodore Baker (1851-1934).

It is usually set to the tune JÜNGST, by German composer Hugo Richard Jüngst (1853-1923).

Glad tidings brought an angel bright:

There shall He lie in manger mean,
