To Jesus Christ our Sovereign King

As a child, Hellreigel immigrated to the USA from Germany. He joined the Precious Blood congregation, and was was ordained as a Catholic priest in 1914. He wrote the hymn in 1941, during the 2nd World War, to emphasise Jesus' as ruler of all people.

With meter of 8.7.8.7 with refrain, this hymn is almost always set to the tune ICH GLAUB AN GOTT, from Mainz Gesangbuch, 1870.

Lyrics

To Jesus Christ, our Sov'reign King,
Who is the world's salvation,
All praise and homage do we bring,
And thanks and adoration.

Refrain:
Christ Jesus Victor,
Christ Jesus Ruler!
Christ Jesus, Lord and Redeemer!

2. Thy reign extend, O King benign,
To ev'ry land and nation,
For in Thy kingdom, Lord divine,
Alone we find salvation.

3. To Thee and to Thy Church, great King,
We pledge our hearts' oblation,
Until before Thy throne we sing,
In endless jubilation.
