Bless This House

This is a song of dedication or blessing for a home

The words were written by English academic and writer Helen Taylor (1873-1943). It was first published as "Bless the House" in 1927, but later had some minor adjustments suggested by Irish tenor John McCormack (1884–1945).

The tune was written by Taylor's friend, Australian-born composer May H Brahe (1884–1956).

Though not originally intended as a hymn, it is seen as one by many people. However it does not appear to have been published in any hymnals.  Artists who have recorded it include Perry Como, and many others. (Ref)

Lyrics

Bless this house O Lord we pray; Make it safe by night and day;
Bless these walls so firm and stout, Keeping want and trouble out:
Bless the roof and chimneys tall, Let thy peace lie over all;
Bless this door, that it may prove ever open to joy and love.

Bless these windows shining bright, Letting in God's heav'nly light;
Bless the hearth a'blazing there, with smoke ascending like a prayer;
Bless the folk who dwell within, keep them pure and free from sin;
Bless us all that we may be Fit O Lord to dwell with thee;
Bless us all that one day we May dwell O Lord with thee.
