Song of Simeon - Andersen

This hymn is based on Luke 2:29-32, and may be thought of as a loose translation of the Latin hymn Nunc Dimittis.

It was written by Australian Roman Catholic priest and liturgist, Fr Frank Andersen.

It was originally released, sung by Paul Girr OFM on a CD of Andersen's music titled Kindly Light, and published in the accompanying music book which was released by Spectrum Publications of Richmond, Victoria in 1992 (ref).   The collection was re-released on CD in 2003 (ref).

The book and CD are both out of print, and no on-line versions have been located.

Lyrics

At last O loving Father
Give us leave to go in peace
Due to your promises of old.
For today our eyes have seen the glory of your Son
Something you prepared for all to see.
He alone elightens all the darkness of our world
He alone gives glory to you.
We will watch and welcome him where-ever he may rise
Lead us in safety home to you,
Lead us in safety home to you.
