It was written by English Roman Catholic teacher and liturgical musician Francesca Leftley (b 1955), and published in 1978 in the
20th Century Folk Hymnal, volume 4.
It has subsequently been published in Singing the Faith Plus and in some editions of Hymns Old and New - and these books are the best sources of sheet music for it.
It is set to an un-named tune, also by Leftley. The tune is in 4/4
time, and was originally published in the key of A, with the first few notes
being A, G A E.
There are three verses, with four lines in each, and the last line each on is the same. There is no chorus. A rough outline of the words is:
