Lyrics
The lyrics are copyright so cannot be reproduced here. But they are currently available on this website.A rough outline is:
1 Bright and clear as a trumpet blast, a herald shout goes out ...
Chorus:
Come, Lord, to a world of longing, listen to creation’s cry;
Answer nature’s deepest yearning; manifest God’s reign.
Come, Lord, shining star of morning, rise up, scatter death’s dark shade.
Come, Lord, mighty King Eternal! Jesus, Emmanuel!
2 Take your stand on a lofty place, Messenger of God ...
3 See, he comes in power and might, Master of all things ...
This is by far my favorite Advent hymn. Sadly, I've not heard it sung in any church other than by my own choir at Holy Name Parish in Steamboat Springs, CO when I was the director. I discovered it while listening to the OCP CD that came with the new hymnals.
