It was written by Himmie Gustafson and first published in 1976 - possibly on the LP recording "The Kingdom Sound" (ref).
Sheet music was provided in the book Songs of the Kingdom - though this is now out of print. No other sources have been found.
The tune has a cut time signature. In the key of D the first few notes are D A, D E.
It is not the same as a recent song with the same title by Donna Guenther, which starts "I hear a sound coming from the mountain, I hear a sound like a trumpet in the distance, Take a look around the season's changing ... "

Lyrics
The lyrics are copyright so cannot be re-produced in full here. But they are available form this website. A rough outline is:1 I hear a sound coming from the mountain,
I hear it louder each day ...
Chorus
Prepare ye the way,
Prepare ye the way,
Prepare ye the way,
Of the Lord.
I see the King standing on the mountain,
I see Him clearer each day ...
I feel God's love coming from the mountain
I feel it strong each day ....

Himmie Gustafson sang "I Hear A Sound" on a 1976 album "Returning..." published by "Bread Of Life".
