Take Lord Receive

This hymn was written by American Roman Catholic priest and liturgical musician John Foley SJ (b 1939) in 1975.

It is inspired by the suscipe prayer by Ignatius Loyola, founder of the Jesuit order:

Take Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, and my entire will, all that I have and possess. Thou hast given all to me. To Thee, O lord, I return it. All is Thine, dispose of it wholly according to Thy will. Give me Thy love and thy grace, for this is sufficient for me.

The song was included in the 1987 book Songs of the Spirit - Songs of the Renewal, volume 3. Second-hand copies of this book are sometimes available on Amazon, and sheet music is available from OCP's website.

The unnamed tune has an 4/4 time signature. In the key of F, the first few notes are c F c B BA GF F.
