It was originally released in 1969 by Sacred Heart Publications, England., and then included in Mayhew-McCrimmon's Sing a New Song to the Lord, 1970. Later it was included in Hymns Old and New for the Irish Church published in 1977, and McCrimmon's Celebration Hymnal for Everyone 2012 edition, which is still available today.
The hymn is set to a tune called CARITAS by Eric Welch. This has a 2/2 time signature. In the key of F, the first few notes are C C F EF G F E
Sing a New Song recommends it for Palm Sunday in Year C, the 6th Sunday of Easter in years A & B, and for Holy Thursday.
