It was written by Indian Roman Catholic religious sister Maria Lydia Pereira (b1920), and first published by Kevin Mayhew Ltd in 1999 in the 21st Century Folk Hymnal.

It is set to an unnamed tune, also by Pereira. This has a 4/4 time signature. In the key of Em, the first few notes are B BB B_ Bc dc BA GF with accompanying chords Em / D.
