It is Good to Give Thanks - Andersen

This folk-style hymn was written by Australian Roman Catholic priest and composer Fr Frank Andersen MSC, based on Psalm 91 (92).

It was originally published in 1981 by Chevalier Publications in the "Everything I Possess" collection (ref), which was renamed Galilee Song.

It was later included in the Scripture in Song - The Music of Frank Andersen MSC collection, which is still available.   Both of these publications include sheet music for the hymn.

The unnamed tune was written by Fr Andersen: It has a 4/4 time signature, and in the key of Bb the first few notes of the melody line are DE F FF F GA B with accompanying chords Bb / F /  Gm.

Chorus:
It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
To make music to your name O most high.
To proclaim your love in the morning and your truth in the night
With the murmuring sound of instruments I sing.

1 Planted in the house of my Lord ...

2 When I see the wonders you have done ...

3 Those who live will flourish like the palm ...

Chorus:
It is good to give thanks to the Lord
To make music to your name, Oh Most High
To proclaim your love in the morning
And your truth in the night
With the murmuring sound of instruments, I sing.

1 Planted in the house of my Lord
Growing in the courts of my God
Still bearing fruits when I am old and worn
Prove of the justice of my God.

When I see the wonders you have done
Then my heart is truly filled with joy
Oh Lord, how deep are your designs in me
The foolish person cannot understand.

3 Those who live will flourish like the palm,
And grow like a cedar firm and tall.
The justice of the Lord will be my saving song,
In God my rock, there is no wrong.
