Silver and Gold have I None (Peter and John went to pray)

This is a joyful children's song that is based on Acts 3: 1 – 8.

It may also be known as Peter and John went to Pray, or the Walking and Leaping song.   It's particularly suitable for vacation bible school or other energetic settings.

The author and composer are unknown:   The earliest publication located, so far, is in Let's Just Praise the Lord, Egypt, 1978 (ref), but the song appears to be widely known.

The unnamed tune has a 6/8 time signature. In the key of  G, the first few notes are GGG GD B,C D FFF FE F G_ with accompanying chords G / C / D7 / G.

Some artists have also published a more gentle version of the tune as a children's lullaby.

Lyrics

Peter and John went to pray.
They met a lame man on the way
He asked for alms and held out his palms,
And this is what Peter did say

Silver and gold have I none,
But such as I have give I thee,
In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.

He went walking and leaping and praising God,
Walking and leaping and praising God,
In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.

Silver and gold have I nine,
But such as I have give I thee,
In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.
He went walking and leaping and praising God,

Walking and leaping and praising God,
In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.
In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.
