The Vine and Fig Tree

The author of this peace song is unknown.  It is based on biblical quotes from Micah 4:4 (everyone beneath their vine and fig tree), and Isaiah 2:3-5 (swords into ploughshares).

It is set to a Hebrew folk tune, composer also unknown, called LO YISA GOY.

The song may be sung as a round.   The range may challenge some groups - sheet music is provided in both Em and Gm (a higher setting).

Lyrics

And everyone beneath the vine and fig tree
Shall live in peace and unafraid(*).
And everyone beneath the vine and fig tree
Shall live in peace and unafraid.
And into plowshares turn their swords,
Nations shall learn war no more.
And into plowshares turn their swords,
Nations shall learn war no more.

(*) Some versions: "Shall live in peace and have no fear".
