Only a Boy Named David

This children's hymn about David and Goliath was written by Australian Salvation Army officer Arthur Arnott (1870-1941), and first published in 1931. It is based on the story of Daivd the shepherd boy who killed a giant using only a small sling, told in 1 Samuel 17.

Lyrics:

Only a boy named David, only a little sling,
only a boy named David, but he could pray and sing.
Only a boy named David, only a rippling brook,
only a boy named David, but five little stones he took.

And one little stone went in the sling,
and the sling went round and round.
And one little stone went in the sling,
and the sling went round and round,
and round and round and round and round,
and round and round and round.
And one little stone went up in the air,
and the giant came tumbling down.
