We Want to see Jesus Lifted High

This action-song was written by English song-writer and children's minister Doug Horley (stage name Duggie Dug Dug).   It was first published in 1993 by Thankyou Music Ltd, and is covered by CCLI licensing.

Although initially written for children, it was chosen as the theme song for the Global March for Jesus, and so has received exposure in a large number of countries. As a result, it has been translated into a number of languages, including
  • Dutch (Wij willen dat Jezus wordt verhoogd)
  • German (Wir heben den Namen Jesus hoch)
  • Swiss (Mir wei Jesus über allem gseh)
  • Korean (주 예수의 이름 높이세
  • Spanish (Quiero ver exaltado a Jesús)
  • Swedish (Ve vill se Jesus lyftas högt)

If you know of others, please leave a message in the Comments box near the bottom of this page.

It has not been included in any hymnals, but sheet music is available in various workshop-song books, linked to below.

The original lyrics include the phrase  "That all men might see the truth and know".   Some people sing this as "That people might see the truth and know" - it's not clear if this change has been approved by the original author.

Lyrics

We want to see Jesus lifted high,
A banner that flies across this land.
That all men might see the truth and know
He is the way to heaven.

Chorus 1
We want to see, we want to see, we want to see Jesus lifted high  (repeat).

Bridge
Step by step we’re moving forward,
Little by little taking ground.
Every prayer a powerful weapon,
Strongholds come tumbling down and down and down ...

Chorus 2
We’re gonna see, we’re gonna see, we’re gonna see Jesus lifted high, (repeat)
