Cause me to Come to Thy River O Lord

This worship song is attributed to R Edward Millar, and American copyright was registered in 1974 by  Brentwood Benson Publishing.

However the song was published in the third edition of Songs of Praise published in 1973 - albeit with no information about the author or composer.   Six years later in 1979, the same publisher included it in Scripture in Song, Volume 1 - this book attributed the author, but did not have any information about the copyright status.

Various version of the lyrics have also been used, for example  "Cause me to Come to Thy Fountain" - and some Catholic churches have added a set of lyrics which are more Eucharistic.

Lyrics

Catholic version

Cause me to come to your river, O Lord,
Cause me to come to your river, O Lord,
Cause me to come to your river, O Lord,
Cause me to come,
Cause me to drink,
Cause me to live.

Speak, Lord, your word, I am listening to you,
Speak, Lord, your word, I am listening to you,
Speak, Lord, your word, I am listening to you,
Speak to my mind,
Speak to my will,
Speak to my heart.

Feed me, O Lord, with your body and blood,
Feed me, O Lord, with your body and blood,
Feed me, O Lord, with your body and blood,
Strengthen my mind,
Strengthen my will,
strengthen my heart

Ecumenical version

Cause me to come to Thy river O Lord
Cause me to come to Thy river O Lord
Cause me to come to Thy river O Lord
Cause me to come
Cause me to drink

Cause me to drink from Thy river O Lord
Cause me to drink from Thy river O Lord
Cause me to drink from Thy river O Lord
Cause me to come
Cause me to drink
Cause me to live.

Cause me to live by Thy river O Lord
Cause me to live ty Thy river O Lord
Cause me to live by Thy river O Lord
Cause me to come
