Lord Accept the Gifts we Offer

This is an Offertory hymn, which focuses on the elements being provided for Eucharist.

The author is unclear.   Some sources attribute it to  Sister Mary Teresine Haban OSF (1914-2010), although it is possible that she was the editor of a publication where it was published anonymously.   Others attribute it to Sister M Teresine OSF (1897-1988).

With meter 8787, it is almost-always set to the tune ST THOMAS (Wade) by John Francis Wade (1711-86) - which is also the usual setting of Tantum Ergo. This tune was published in Wade's Cantus Diversi, 1751 and Webbe's Motets and Antiphons, 1792 - the latter meaning it is sometimes, incorrectly, attributed to Webbe.

Lyrics

Lord accept the gifts we offer at this Eucharistic feast,
Bread and wine to be transformed now, through the action of thy priest,
Take us too Lord and transform us, may thy grace in us increase.

May our souls be pure and spotless, as the host of wheat so fine,
May all stain of sin be crushed out like the grape that forms the wine,
As we too become partakers in this sacrifice divine

Take our gifts Almighty Father, living God eternal true,
Which we give through Christ our Saviour pleading here for us anew
Grant salvation to us present and our faith and love renew.
