Lord Dismiss us with Thy Blessing

This is a hymn of dismissal and petition for God's blessing.

The words were written by English Baptist minister John Fawcett (1740-1817), and first published in 1791.

With meter 8.7.8.7.8.7, it is usually sung to the Italian tune, SICILIAN MARINERS, which was traditionally used for the Marian hymn "O Sanctissima".

Lyrics

Modern language

Lord, dismiss us with Your blessing;
Fill our hearts with joy and peace;
Let us each, Your love possessing,
Triumph in redeeming grace:
O refresh us, O refresh us,
Travelling through this wilderness.

Thanks we give, and adoration
For your gospel's joyful sound:
May the fruits of your salvation
In our hearts and lives abound!
Ever faithful, ever faithful
To the truth may we be found!

So when e'er the signal's given
Us from earth to call away,
Born on angel's wings to heaven,
Glad the summons to obey
May we ever, may we ever
Reign with Christ in endless day!
