This is our Acceptable Time

This is a folk-style hymn about repentance, for the season of Lent.  It is based on Isaiah 49.

It was written by Australian Roman Catholic priest, folk-composer and liturgist, Frank Andersen MSC.

The song was originally published in the "Everything I Possess" collection, which was later renamed Galilee Song.   It is  included in the Scripture in Song - The Music of Frank Andersen MSC collection, which is still available and which includes lead-sheet music.  It was also included on the Galilee Song recording.

The tune was written by Fr Andersen:  it is in a major key (D in the original printing), with a 3/4 time signature.  The first few notes are F A G.   It starts with a chorus, which is repeated between the verses.

Chorus:
This is our acceptable time!
This is our day of salvation!
This is our acceptable time…
It will be the day of the Lord!

1. Gather you people! Return to your God ...

2. Listen, my people, when you were a child ...

3. You are my people, my choice, my delight ...

This is our acceptable time! This is our day of salvation! This is our acceptable time, It will be the day of the Lord! Gather you people! Return to your God! Trusting his mercy and goodness again! Give him your heart! Open your eyes! See how your Saviour comes! Listen, my people, when you were a child, Out of your bondage I called you to me! But when I called, you walked away! How could I part with you? You are my people, my choice, my delight! Could I forget you, the child of my womb? I am your God searching for you! Give me your heart and live!
