Come Down Lord my Son is Ill

This is a folk-style hymn about the about healing and peace. It was written by Medical Mission Sister Miriam Therese Winter (b 1938), and originally released in her 1965 collection "Joy is like the Rain".

The first verse and chorus are inspired by Matthew 8:6-8, which is about the Roman centurion who has such faith in Jesus ability to heal that he says "do not come to my house, speak and the boy is healed".   The other verses apply this approach to asking Jesus healing for ourselves and our world.

The song doesn't appear to have been published anywhere else, but the Joy is Like the Rain collection is still available from the Medical Mission sisters (link below).

The tune has a 4/4 time signature. When it is set in the key of Eb, the first few notes are GF G FE FEC.

Come down, Lord, my son is ill, Wracked with fever the livelong day.

KEEP IN CASE ORIGINAL IS REMOVED, BUT DO NOT DISPLAY
1. Come down, Lord, my son is ill,
Wracked with fever the livelong day.
He is life to me, if You will
Drive death away, Drive death away.

Chorus
Lord, do not come to my house, I'm unworthy,
Speak and the promise is sealed.
For when your word, O Lord is spoken,
He shall be healed, he shall be healed.

2. Come down, Lord, my soul is ill,
Wracked with anguish the livelong day.
All my sorrowing will be still,
If You but say, if You but say.

3. Come down, Lord, the world is ill,
Wracked with bloodshed the livelong day.
Man must struggle for peace until
You show the way, You show the way.
