Bring Back the Springtime

This song was written by American contemporary Christian musician, composer and producer Kurt Kaiser (1934-2018) in 1970, and first published in 1975 by Sacred Songs (a division of Word, Inc).

The tune, also by Kaiser, is called SPRINGTIME. With irregular meter, it was originally published in the key of F. Later publication was in the key of E♭ and the first few notes in this key are E E F G G A F

It was published in several books, including Sing'n'Celebrate 1975 and The Hymnal for Worship and Celebration, 1986 both published by Word Music, Nashville, USA - and second-hand copies of these are one way toget the original sheet music.

A recording by George Beverly Shea is particularly well-known.

1 When in the spring the flowers are blooming bright and fair.
... Back in the meadows of my home.

Chorus:
Lord, to my heart, bring back the springtime.
Take away the cold and dark of sin,
O, refill me now, sweet Holy Spirit,
May I warm and tender be again.

2 Lord, make me like that stream ...

When in the spring the flowers Are blooming bright and fair. After the gray of winter’s gone, Once again the lark begins its tuning Back in the meadows of my home. Chorus: Lord, to my heart bring back the springtime Take away the cold and dark of sin, O, refill me now, sweet Holy Spirit, May I warm and tender be again. 2 Lord, make me like that stream That flows so cool and clear, Down from the mountains high above; I will tell the world the wondrous story Of the precious stream filled with your love.
