Cups of Cold Water

This is a song about Christian service. It was written by American evangelical song-writer John W. Peterson (1921-2006), based on Mark 9:41.

It is part of a cantana by Peterson, called "Love and Kindness", which was first published by Singspiration in 1976.  The cantata is now out of print, but copies are often available on Amazon, and the song is included in one hymn-book, at least, -link below.

The song is often sung with a distinct country-and-western feel.   But it could be presented in other styles also.

A rough outline is:
1 Helping the widows and orphans in their need ...

Chorus
Cups of cold water given in Jesus name,
Cups of cold waters are never given in vain.
Someday in heaven when we meet the Lord,
Each deed of kindness will bring a rich reward.

2 Sharing the Gospel with sinners gone astray ...

Helping the widows and orphans in their need. Healing the sick ones and bind the heart that bleed. Feeding the hungry concerns the Lord above. By this we serve him and demonstrate His Love.Chorus Cups of cold water given in Jesus name, Cups of cold waters are never given in vain. Someday in heaven when we meet the Lord, Each deed of kindness will bring a rich reward. 2 Sharing the Gospel with sinners gone astray, Holding the light up so they can find their way. Lifting up the fallen, this we must surely do, If is our calling as Christians we are through.
