It was written by South African born lay Franciscan Sebastian Temple
(1928-1997), and first released on the recording Sing! People Of God, Sing!
(St. Francis SFPC-1) in 1967 (ref).

The song is set to an unnamed tune, also by Temple. This has a 6/8 time signature. In the key of Bb, the first few notes are D C B E EE. This tune does seem vaguely reminiscent of the theme tune from Star Wars, although the nature of the link between them has not yet been identified.
