Morning Praise (I will praise my God in the morning) - Andersen

This hymn of praise for the start of the day was written by Australian Roman Catholic priest and liturgist Fr Frank Andersen MSC.

It was originally published in the Eagles Wings collection, and so is now included in Scripture in Song - The Music of Frank Andersen MSC, which is still available.   Both of these publications include lead-sheet style sheet music.

The text is based on Psalm 139.

The tune was written by Fr Andersen:  it has a 4/4 time signature, and in the key of D the first few notes are A, A, F A AG ED D. The guitar chords to match this phrase are D / G / A7 / D.

Google search results suggest that it's not widely used today.

Lyrics

Chorus:
I will praise my God in the morning
I will sing to God all my days
For Yahweh is my strength and glory
Yahweh, truly my song.

1  Lord you know each turn within my heart
You read me from afar
All my ways lie open to Your mind, my God.

2  If I flew beyond the rising sun
Or westward to the sea
I would still be within your arms, my God.

3 It was You who planned by inmost self,
You formed me in the womb!
For this wonder of myself, I now thank You!
