I Love You Lord and I Lift my Voice

This is short, heartfelt worship song about loving and praising God.

It was written in 1976(*) by American musician, author and poet, Laurie Klein, nee Brendemuehl  (b 1950) when she was a young mother with few resources (source).  It was first published in 1978 by House of Mercy Music.  Since then it has been covered by a very wide range of artists, and been used as a worship song in churches of many different denominations.

With meter 9.9.8.10, the tune is sometimes also called I LOVE YOU LORD.   It has a 4/4 time signature. In the key of G, the first few notes are D G GG DG A B B_, with accompanying chords D / G / F / D7 / G.

The song can be extended using other verbs eg "I trust you lord ... " and "I serve you Lord ..." if required - although these are not in the published original version.

(*)  1976 according to the author.  Some sources say 1974 or 1978.

Person with hands raised in prayer before the sunrise - I love you, Lord, and I lift my voice To worship You oh, my soul, rejoice! Take joy my King in what You hear Let it be a sweet, sweet sound in Your ear.
