Jesus the Word has Lived Among Us

This hymn about Jesus was written by Australian Presbyterian minister and author Keith D. (David) Pearson (b 1925). It was first published by the Joint Board of Christian Education of Australia and New Zealand in 1976, possibly in one of their Songs of Praise publications.

More recently, it was included in the 1994 edition of McCrimmon's Celebration Hymnal for Everyone, and some editions of Kevin Mayhew's Liturgical Hymns Old and New.

It is set to the tune QUELLE EST CETTE ODEUR AGRÉABLE - a French Christmas carol from the 17th century - and for this reason is sometimes recommended as a Christmas song although the actual words are suitable for many times during the year.

Lyrics

1 Jesus the Word has lived among us,
sharing his fullness, truth and grace,
God's only Son, the Father's loved one
reveals him to the human race.
Jesus the Word has lived among us
sharing his fullness, truth and grace.

2 He was with God from the beginning
and through him all things came to be.
He lightens darkness, conquers evil,
gives life for living, glad and free.
He was with God from the beginning
and through him all things came to be.

3 Sing praise to God who sent Christ Jesus
to be his sign of endless love;
sent him to live his life among us,
lifting our hearts to things above.
Sing praise to God who sent Christ Jesus
to be his sign of endless love!
