Wonderful World (Take care to wonder)

This is a children's hymn about recognising God's presence in creation.

It was written by American Roman Catholic, at-the-time member of the Benedictine order, James Thiem OSB (b 1942).  It is set to an unnamed tune, also by Thiem. This has a cut-common time signature. In the key of Em, the first few notes are B G_  B B G EFG, with accompanying chords G / Em / G.

The only known publication is in Hymnal for Young Christians, Volume 2, 1966.   This is now out-of-print, though second hand copies can sometimes be found.   Lead-sheet music can currently be seen on this blog-post.

The song was included in an album titled Get Together released in the UK by the BBC in 1973, sung by members of the Girl Guides Association and arranged by British composer Douglas Coombes (ref).

The original copyright owner was the American F. E. L. Publications, Ltd.  When they closed in 1991, ownership was assigned to Lorenz Corporation, however because the song is now out-of-print, the current status is unclear.

Lyrics

The lyrics are copyright so cannot be reproduced here. But they are currently available on this website. A rough outline is:
Chorus:
Take care to wonder at the world through which you wander.
Never hurry by an open door,
for you live in a universe,
full of miracles galore.

1 Look for God in small things:
Drops of rain or a grain of sand.
Praise him whenever you find him in anything small.

2. Look for God in bright things:
Someone's eyes or the skies at noon.
Praise him whenever you find him in anything bright.

3. Look for God in black things:
Storms at dusk or a brother's skin.
Praise him whenever you find him in anything black.

4. Look for God in weak things:
Newborn deer or a fearful child.
Praise him whenever you find him in anything weak.

5. Look for God in wet things:
Dewy grass or a glass of wine.
Praise him whenever you find him in anything wet.
