I Heard the Lord (call my name)

This folk-style song about mission and God's call was composed by American poet / hymn-writer, and later engineer and massage therapist C.J (Cecil Jacob) Krieger.   It was written in 1969.   Copyright was originally registered to the Word of God charismatic movement in 1973, and is still assigned to them.

It was the title-track of an album released by Mary and the Disciples (ref), who may have been a fore-runner to or associates of The Fisherfolk (ref)   Later it was recorded by Alan Pomper (sample below).

More recently, it has been included in a children's CD titled "Wake Up!  To Sing the Praise of Jesus" which tells the story of Noah and the Ark.  This CD is available to purchase from Community of Celebration Services, and this is the best way of obtaining a sound file / MP3 of the song.

Hymn-books which it has been published in include:
Second-hand copies of the first two books are the best way of finding sheet music for the song.

It has been translated into other languages including German (Jesus ist Herr dieser Welt).

The song is set to an unnamed tune, also by Krieger. This has a 4/4 time signature. In the key of F, the first few notes are C D E F z B BB A z, with accompanying chords F / Bb / B

Man kneeling in prayer after an intense religious experience in a farm-field swathed in sunlight - 1. I heard the Lord call my name listen close you?ll hear the same. Take his hand, we are glory bound. 2. His word is Love, Love's His word that's the message that I heard, Take his hand, we are glory bound. Bridge: Place your hand in His and You will know, He will show you where to go. 3. I felt His Love from above settle on me like a dove, Take his hand, we are glory bound. 4 And to the Father all your days - with the Son and Spirit praise. Take his hand, we are glory bound.
