Jesus Come to Us - Haas

This is a gentle, reflective hymn of petition, asking for Jesus presence.  It can be used at Advent - but is suitable for any season of the year.

The song was written by American Roman Catholic liturgical musician and composer David Haas (b 1957)**.  It was originally published in 1981 by OCP (unlike his later work which is mainly published by GIA).

The song is set to an unnamed tune, also by Haas. This has a 4/4 time signature. In the key of F, the first few notes are C F F_ G GA B_ with accompanying chords   F -- Bb -- C/E  --  F

** About the author

In 2020, dozens of women accused David Haas of serious misconduct.  Following investigations he issued a public apology. (More here - includes disturbing materials).

Since this happened, GIA Publications and others stopped publishing work by Haas:  Sheet music is not available for his songs, and many videos have been removed. Some American Catholic dioceses have asked members to stop using his work, as suggested by his victims, who may find singing his compositions traumatic.

So far, few church organisations outside the USA have officially spoken about the issue.   However individual churches and musicians may want to consider whether or not to use his material.  Alternatives for this song include:   COME TO US
  • Come To Us - Angrisano (video)
  • Holy Spirit Come to Us - TaizĂ©
  • Christ Jesus, Come to Us in Faith - Glen
