From the Many Make us One

This is a hymn about unity in the Eucharist

It was written by American Roman Catholic theologian, publisher and social-justice activist, Gabe Huck, as part of "By Heart: Seasonal Songs for Gathering, Interceding, and Communion", a project which Huck did in collaboration with Cuban-American Roman Catholic composer and theologian Tony Alonso.  The song was released in 2005.

It is set to an unnamed tune by Alonso. This has a 3/4 time signature. In the key of C, the first few notes are CD E G GE A_

Large group of people in black and white facing the same direction - When we sing and when we cry, as we live and as we die: to this table now we come, from the many make us one.

Lyrics

The lyrics are copyright so cannot be reproduced here. But they are currently available on this website. A rough outline is:
1 Jesus prayed before he died ...

Refrain
When we sing and when we cry, as we live and as we die:
to this table now we come, from the many make us one.

2 Love the world so loved by God ....

3 All alike at table share ...

4 Walk with all who walked before ....

5 Search the alleys for God’s guests ...

6 What if greed and hunger reign? ....

KEEP IN CASE ORIGINAL IS REMOVED, BUT DO NOT DISPLAY
1 Jesus prayed before he died, “Make them one this whole world wide.
Every shade and tribe and tongue, male and female, old and young.”

Refrain
When we sing and when we cry, as we live and as we die:
to this table now we come, from the many make us one.

2 Love the world so loved by God: Tattered, scattered, worn and trod.
Come to welcome table here, doors wide open, nothing fear. R/.

3 All alike at table share, God and world are wedded here.
No more borders, prisons, walls, open wide our banquet hall. R/.

4 Walk with all who walked before; weary, burdened, broken poor.
Saints of every age and place, every color, every race. R/.

5 Search the alleys for God’s guests, north and south and east and west.
Here poor take honoured place, here the homeless, home embrace. R/.

6 What if greed and hunger reign? Then God loves the world again!
Sets a meagre banquet here, sinners all, it’s ours to share.
