Come and be Filled

This hymn about the Eucharist was written by Indian Roman Catholic priest, musician, liturgist and composer Aniceto Nazareth (1938-2021). The verses are directly based on scripture:
  • Verse 1:   John 6
  • Verse 2:   Col 1:13
  • Verse 3:   Gal 2:20
  • Verse 4:   Romans 8:1-2
  • Verse 5:   John

It was first published by Kevin Mayhew Ltd in 1984, and later included in Songs of the Spirit volume 3 in 1987, and Liturgical Hymns Old and New.  No other publications or sources of sheet music have been located.

The song is set to an unnamed tune, also by Nazareth. This has a 12/8 time signature. In the key of Am, the first few notes of the melody are CCC  G_G_ FG BAF G__

Chorus:
Come and be filled as you sit at my table,
Quenching your thirst as you drink of my wine,
Bringing the mem’ry of my dying and rising,
Into your blood stream which is mingled with mine.

1 This is the bread that has come down from heaven,
This is my blood for the life of the world.

2 He leads us out of the power of darkness,
And brings us safe to his kingdom of life.

3 No longer I, but now Christ lives within me.
I Live by faith in the Son of God.

4 Those in Christ Jesus will have no condemnation:
He sets them free through the spirit he sends.

5 Thus shall the world know you are my disciples:
If you can love and if you can forgive.
