Christ is Risen ( All is quiet all is sombre)

This Easter hymn was written by Peter Madden - no further information about his has been located.

It was published in the 20th Century Folk Hymnal, volume 3, but no further references to it have been located.  However a visitor to this website reports that it was used in a church in Durban between the 1980s and 2010.

It is set to an unnamed tune, also by Madden. This has a 2/2 time signature. In the key of G, the first few notes are G_ G G F E F E_ D_ with accompanying chords  G / Am / C / G.

Lyrics

All is quiet, all is sombre,
from the depths a cry of wonder;

Chorus:
Christ is risen, Christ is risen!
Alleluia! All the world sing out with joy.

2 Men upon the road, now mournful.
Recognise him in bread broken.

3 Tell the world the good-news-story,
Spread the word of God's great glory.
