Lyrics

How can there be peace in this life?
Who can lend a hand in this land of strife?
Who will bring good news, who'll speak my word?
On whom can I depend, is it you my friend?

Chorus:
I've heard the Lord, He was calling me,
I heard Him call my name
Can it be true, can this really mean,
He's chosen me to be a prophet of hope?

People of old called on the Lord
They cried for help and He heard their call.
We here today, we can do the same
Pray to our God, whose love will not change.

We will bring new hope, will give our lives
God will be our strength, be our shield, our guide.
Gathered as one, people unite,
We will live in peace, we will live for life.

  1. I learnt this song in primary school , St Martin's.
I love to sing it and thanks for reminding me of the last verse.
The tune has always stayed with me.

  2. Thanks for posting the lyrics. I was looking for it after I found an old recording on a cassette that belonged to my dad. Here's a link to this recording, which is from 1989. It's a group of Australian youths who came and sang it in our church in Egypt.

Unfortunately, the recording contains the first verse only without the chorus, and it's not the best quality. It would be great if anyone knows how the rest of it is sung because it's such a beautiful song.
Also, I found that the audio exists in the National Library of Australia: https://nla.gov.au/nla.cat-vn402619.
If anyone can go and look it up, it will be much appreciated.
