Set Your Heart on the Higher Gifts

This is a hymn about love.  It is based on 1 Corinthians 12:31 - 13:12, which is Paul's letter to the Romans: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself. Love does no evil to the neighbor; hence, love is the fulfillment of the law.".   The hymn is suitable for general use, and also popular for weddings.

It was written by American Roman Catholic liturgical musician, music director and composer, Steven C. Warner (), and first published in 1992 by World Library Publications, USA.

It is set to an unnamed tune, also by Warner. This has a 4/4 time signature. In the key of F, the first few notes of the melody are C F B AG AG F_ EF D_ FC DE F GA A G with accompanying chords  F / Bb / F / Dm / Bb / F / Gm7 / C.

Chorus:
Set your heart on the higher gifts, on the things that come from your Maker in heaven.
These three gifts are all that remain: faith, hope and love; and the greatest is love.

1. If I speak with the tongues of the living, and of angels, ....

2. And if I understand ev’ry mystery, having wisdom, ...

3. And if I should renounce all my riches, feed the hungry, ...

KEEP IN CASE ORIGINAL IS REMOVED, BUT DO NOT DISPLAY Chorus:
Set your heart on the higher gifts, on the things that come from your Maker in heaven.
These three gifts are all that remain: faith, hope and love; and the greatest is love.

1. If I speak with the tongues of the living, and of angels, but speak without love,
I am only brass without song, an empty noise on the wind.

2. And if I understand ev’ry mystery, having wisdom, but think without love,
Had I faith to scatter the hills, I am nothing at all.

3. And if I should renounce all my riches, feed the hungry, give over my life;Without love my profit is loss, my caring finds no reward.
