Let the Son Shine In (Joyful hope, love of God and smiling faces)

This is a folk-style hymn which encourages people to express Christian joy and peace in their every-day lives.

The author is unknown:  The song is part of a set of hymns written in the 1970 / 80s for the so-called Polka Masses:   These are sets of hymns and Mass-parts set to popular / folk-style polka tunes from Eastern Europe.   Some of the hymn-words were written by Mary Cvek (the mother of Joe Cvek, one of the musicians involved, details unknown) - but published versions, copyright registrations, or records of who wrote exactly what have not been located.

This particular hymn may have been inspired by, or written as a Czech / Catholic response to, Stuart Hamblen's 1950s gospel song, "Open Up Your Heart (And Let The Sunshine In)".

Lyrics

Joyful hope, love of God and smiling faces
Is the heritage we have as sons of God.
Christ has risen to new life
Put an end to death and strife.
Now we celebrate as daughters of our God.

Chorus:
So let the Son shine in
Shake hands with your neighbor
And happiness will never leave your heart.
So let the Son shine in
Share Christ with your neighbor
And happiness will never leave your heart.

On the job, in your house or at a party
People wishing all their friends the Peace of Christ.
Happy feeling in the air
Forget your troubles and your cares
And then join all those who share the peace of Christ.

Young and old, rich and poor, all together,
As we seek to share the gifts that God provides;
Give your hand to those in need, open your heart all you see,
and live as children, hand in hand with God.
