The song was written by American-born South Seas Islander Roman Catholic singer/songwriter, composer, musician and evangeliser, Jesse Manibusan, and first published in 1988 by OCP Publications.
A Spanish-language translation, "Abre mis ojos, Que quiero ver como tú" has also been created by American born and educated Roman Catholic religious (Franciscan) brother, liturgist and inculturation expert, Rufino Zaragoza, OFM, (b. 1957).
A Vietnamese-language translation, Cho Con Ðu?c Nhìn, has also been created.
It is set to an unnamed tune, also by Manibusan. This has a 6/8 time signature. In the key of E, the first few notes of the melody are GFE C B,_ GFE G_ B_ E with accompanying chords E / A / E / B7 / E / B / C#m.

The lyrics are copyright so cannot be reproduced here. But they are currently available on this website. A rough outline is:Open my eyes ...
Help me to see.
Open my ears, Lord ...
Help me to hear.
Open my heart, Lord ...
Help me to love.
I live within you ...
Rest now in me.
