It was written by American contemporary Christian songwriters and musicians, Anthony Brown and Pat Barrett, when they were members of Housefires which was a worship band based at Grace Midtown Church in Atalanta, Georgia, USA.
The song was first realeased by Housefires in 2014. It became very well known after Chris Tomlin recorded it in 2015, to the point where Tomlin is sometimes incorrectly attributed as the author.
It is set to an unnamed tune, also by Brown and Pat Barrett. This has a 6/8 time signature. In the key of A, the first few notes of the melody are A<A AB_ cc cB AAA A_ with accompanying chords A / Asus / A.
