Are You Washed in the Blood of the Lamb

This gospel / country style hymn about salvation through Jesus death and resurrection.

It was written by American Presbyterian minister and composer, Elisha A. Hoffman (1839-1929) in 1878 and first published in 1879 in "Spiritual Songs for Gospel Meetings and the Sunday School".  It later became a marching song for the Salvation Army.

The song contains many Bible references, eg Revelation 7:14: "They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb".

With meter of 11.9.11.9 D, it is virtually always set to an un-named tune that Hoffman wrote for the text.

Lyrics

Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing power?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Are you fully trusting in His grace this hour?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Chorus:
Are you washed, are you washed,
In the blood, in the blood,
In the soul-cleansing blood of the Lamb?
Are your garments spotless? Are they white as snow?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Are you walking daily by the Savior’s side?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Do you rest each moment in the Crucified?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

When the Bridegroom cometh will your robes be white?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Will your soul be ready for the mansions bright,
And be washed in the blood of the Lamb?

Lay aside the garments that are stained with sin,
And be washed in the blood of the Lamb;
There’s a fountain flowing for the soul unclean,
O be washed in the blood of the Lamb!
