The hymns were selected and edited by Donal Maxwell-Timmins. His forward states that the tunes have been chosen for their suitability for use with young children, and most are in a key suitable for elementary recorder players. All are presented with a piano score, and many also have a simplified accompaniment, as well as parts of chimes, recorder, glockenspiel, violin and various rhythm instruments.
The book was first printed in 1974, with reprints in 75, 76, 78 and 1981. Printing was carried out in England by Spottiswoode Ballantyne Limited, Colchester and London
It includes 86 hymns, all in the English language, with sections for Harvest / Nature, Christmas, Evening.
