Laudato Si

This  is a song praising God.    The words are based on the Canticle of the Sun, a prayer originally written in Italian attributed to St Francis of Assisi:  a phrase from this prayer, "Laudato si, mi Signore", was used to name a papal encyclical release in 2015.

The song was written by English Roman Catholic religious brother, educator and youth worker Damian Lundy (1944-1996). and first published in More Songs of the Spirit volume 2 in 1981.

Both the chorus and tune are borrowed from from a traditional Italian song, composer unknown.

Today copyright is owned by Kevin Mayhew Ltd, although it is not clear if the song is in any currently in-print publications.   When the encyclical was released, they made sheet music available here, and granted permission to
 reproduce the words and music of this song and play the recording in your church or school for one-off use FREE OF CHARGE until June 30th 2015, providing the copyright notice at the foot of the sheet music is reproduced on every copy.
stating that after this time, the song may be licenced in the usual way under a CCLI church copyright license.

The original spelling was Laudato Sii, but more recent use shows it as Laudato Si.

1.) Yes, be praised in all your creatures, brother sun and sister moon;
in the stars and in the wind, air and fire and flowing water. R

2.) For our sister, mother earth, she whom feeds us and sustains us;
for her fruits, her grass, her flowers, for the mountains and the oceans. R

3.) Praise for those who spread forgiveness, those who share your peace with others,
bearing trials and sickness bravely! Even sister death won’t harm them. R

4) For our life is but a song, and the reason for our singing
is to praise you for the music; join the dance of your creation. R

5) Praise to you, Father most holy, praise and thanks to you, Lord Jesus,
