It was written in the 1960s by American at-that-time Roman Catholic (Jesuit) priest Paul Quinlan (b 1939), which was included in the album Glory Bound: Psalms Set to Folk Music released by the America Record Society in 1965. It is not listed in the catalog maintained by CCLI for this author, and so the current status is unknown
It is set to an unnamed tune, also by Quinlan, which has a 3/4 time signature.
No published sheet music has been found, and the song does not appear to be included in any later collections of Quinlan's work.
And the waters clear and blue.
Every bird who is winging thru' the sky overhead
Lifts our hearts to thoughts of you,
God of hosts,
They lift our hearts to you.
Chorus:
All of the heavens and all of the earth
will praise the Holy of Holies.
Who will go up to the mountain of God?
Who will see his holy place?
Every man who is pure of heart and set
in the right.
They will see the holy face of the Lord
They'll see his holy face.
Lift up your heads, O ye ancient doors.
Open up, ye gates and right
for the Lord who is God of all has come
to your doors,
Let us sing of glory, sing to the Lord
O Lord of Hosts, Our King.

ReplyDeleteAmazing! Really amazing.
I was taught this song in secondary school and tried to remember the words when it welled up in my spirit last month.
It's quite amazing to know the background of this beautiful song!
Praise God!
I just wish someone can upload the audio of this hymn. Though I can sing it but many times I prefer to just play it for meditations. Praise be God, the Holy of holies
