My Shepherd is the Lord / He Shepherds Me - Miffleton

This setting of the 23rd psalm, which is especially suitable for children, is by American composer, some-time Roman Catholic priest and later children's educator, Jack Miffleton (b TBA).

It was included in the album "Wake Up the Earth," which was released by North American Liturgy Resources in 1983 (ref).

It the 1990s, the song was included in Alive-O, a primary school religious programme used in Ireland.  It was widely used in First Confession and First Communion preparation, and thus is known to a generation or two of Irish people.

It is set to an unnamed tune, also by Miffleton . This has a 4/4 time signature. In the key of D, the first few notes are A A B F G A.

There is sheet music in circulation which attributes the song to American liturgical musician Grayson Warren Brown - but this is not correct:  The words and tune in Brown's version  of "My Shepherd is the Lord" are quite different.

Picture of Jesus the Good Shepherd with several sheep and a lamb, and a shepherd's crook - and the song title superimposed.

1 My shepherd is the Lord, He tends all my needs. By quiet streams he plants a dream Of peace and love for me. He shepherds me. 2 Sometimes when I’m afraid, Sad and all alone, You make my tears disappear With your touch of joy. You shepherd me. 3 You give me food to eat, Bless me every day. You give me rest as your guest Forever in your home. You shepherd me. 4 My shepherd is the Lord. He tends all my needs. By quiet streams he plants a dream Of peace and love for me. He shepherds me.
